Paintball guns come in different paintball air systems. One system is C02 which is a more common. The other paintball air system is High pressure air, known as compressed air or nitrogen.
CO2 air systems are commonly used in paintball, with cheap air gun design paintball guns, paintball pistols, or a tank. CO2 tanks are measured in ounces of liquid. With CO2 pressurized the gas will form to a liquid. Releasing only part of the CO2 stored as gas, with the rest of the liquid must vaporize into a gas before using.
Inconsistent velocity is known with this type of paintball air system. Cold weather will slow vaporization and increase chances of the liquid to go in to the paintball gun. CO2 in a form of a liquid in a paintball gun will be very cold and cause damage to internal parts.
Nitrogen or known as compressed air is a gas form in the paintball compressed air tank, bypassing evaporating stored at a very high pressure. A regulator attached to control the pressure going into the paintball gun. With this type of paintball air system the velocity is more consistent as the measurements are done in psi.
Compressed paintball air tanks are made of steel and aluminum, however the wrapped carbon fiber bottles are less weight and used more out in the paintball fields. The tanks are much more expensive then the CO2 paintball air system.
A variety of regulators are used in paintball guns for both paintball air systems. Some of the regulators are able to regulate up to four systems with multiple stages as other regulators are unregulated. A four system is normally used in tournament paintball guns. The regulator air 200 psi paintball gun will shoot off rounds as the four regulators will continue to monitor and control the paintball air system to keep the gun shooting and running for maximum output.
Tippmann Company, a well known paintball company has a low pressure kit that will allow their Tippmann A5 Paintball Gun to convert to low pressure operation on a paintball air system, for less ball breakage and better accuracy.
When looking at a gun makes sure the type of gas or paintball air system you are using is available in the area or paintball field. Buying a gun with an air system that is not refillable is not a good buy. Filling stations for these types of tanks are usually at paintball fields. Planning on going out of town or state a player should consider finding out if the field that they will be playing will have paintball compressed air filling station to fill the tanks or CO2 available.
When playing paintball remember that these tanks can get damage and as some of the damage can cause permanent damage. When playing take safety measures when filling a tank for a paintball air system and when playing. Always wear a mask when playing, follow the rules and play safe. |
